I made one out of two 4" spacers from the auto parts store, a cone filter, a little beather, a peice of steel bent to suport it, and a home depot piece of sheat metal as a heat shield. HIgh school budget gotta love it.

here are the pics

I got better throttle response, a little more low end power, and it makes a cool little squeak at 2000RPMS

If you have any questions i will be more than happy to help

if your using just a 3 inch pipe off the stock flex hose you may want to get more pipe my first pic is w/ a single 4 inch pipe. I ran that for a few days but then i realized i could add another pipe to push the filter out more thus getting colder air. i'd try to get it out as far as you can

Hmmm good idea's i might have to do that this weekend......

And do you have to have a peice of metal to hold it up or could you just let it sit there i just dont see anything tha could hurt it if it layed there......

Check out my thread in the XJ Write Ups, section. Titled "Home Brew Cold Air Intak". It was actually my son's design....and he thought it up at 18.

XJ?2010, Do you have any difficulties getting her through inspection with the CCV breather "only" on it? Thought it had to be captured and burnt in the system.

well in michigan we dont have inspections and cops could really care less but there are other ways to do it w/o a breather. example these chrome tubes come in many different styles and you can get them with a little nipple on them so you can just plug that hose right onto it just like the stock airbox.
