I would like to make a snorkel and I was told making one would be easy and cheap. I would like to run it though my existing air box or get a new air box at the salvage yard. How do they do with rain and snow?? sound?? HP?? any help would be great.

I have seen some write-ups here not to long ago,one person had actually built his from black pvc and a 4: floor drain at top. That would be very cheap. Take a look in this section and some of the others I think you will find what you want.
as for hp dont hold your breath it wont be very noticable probably will be a little louder some times they will actually wistle when they are really trying to suck in the air as for rain and snow it depends on what type of snorkel head you have on if it is like the arb type you can spin it around so the rain and snow isnt getting pounded in it while driving

in my opinion, unless you plan on crossing some rivers or driving through deep enough water often enough to where it would be useful, i wouldn't do it.... haveing one just for looks is a joke....
but if you really want a cheap way, buy a bunch of PVC pipe and sealer and then curve it where-ever you want... just make sure you paint it afterwards cuz bare PVC snorkles look pretty funny

I'm buying a car for college so the jeep is going to be my project truck. Around here we get floods and the farm trails get small ponds. I just want the reassurance of the snorkel and RTC'ed connections

this is just the plumber in me coming out but what you are calling 'black pvc' is actually ABS.
the two types of pipe require different types of 'glue' to solvent weld them together until recently PVC required a 2 step process where ABS has been a 1 step. Also they react differently to heat, ABS tends to bow and go slightly out of round when left in the sun, and PVC tends not to deform noticeably.
be aware that the number and type of fittings you put on restrict air flow more than you might think. When venting a water heater, every 90 degrees you bend, whether it is two 45's to offset around something or an actual 90, you lose about 5 feet in the length you are allowed to vent. The same rule applies to pulling air in. (the numbers vary by manufacture but are always close) while there is no snorkel code to tell you the max length for one, the number of bends you use is important.
If you can use 'long sweep' fittings you will better off as well.
ok i have said my piece you can go on
PS if you ever go out to your jeep and find a toilet flange glued to your snorkel it was not me.
