Homebrew Cold Air Intake
As promised, here are pictures of my Homebrew cold air intake that I built for my 91 XJ Sport. I copied a design that my son originally came up with. The following things are needed to build your own:
1.) 3" PVC Pipe
2.) 3" Pipe Clamp
3.) 3/8" Hose Fitting x 2 (Brass was cheap and there so I went with that)
4.) 3" cone air filter of your preference.
Drill a couple of holes in the PCV pipe for the 2 hose fittings and screw them in. Hook your breather hoses to the fittings. I did some trimming inside the PCV pipe so the threaded part of the 2 fittings isn't in the intake air stream. You may need to pick up some new longer breather hoses so they reach. Use the 3" pipe clamp to clamp your OEM flex air intake hose to the 3" PCV pipe. You will also need to do a little trimming on the other end of the piece of PCV pipe so the cone filter will fit on. You need to thin it out just a bit. I used a Spectre 3" cone filter as I was going for cheap. You can obviously use AEM, K&N or whatever floats your boat. I also mounted a 5.5" long chunk of 2 by 4 right where the stock air box was. This keeps my Air Intake as high as possible without hitting the hood when I close it. So, with my set up you're still getting air from the stock location but, you get a hellovalot more of it. So far, I haven't had a single hydrolock issue.

It is a pretty simple and generic design but, somebody awhile back asked me to post pics.

My son and I made an intake for his 87 and my 91 at the same time. We bought all the pieces to build 2 from our local Home Depot for about $30 minus the cone filters. Those babies are $25 at Autozone even for the Spectre cheapies. The known names are obviously more.

Heres mine its basicly the same thing but with a heat shield
To make to make the shield i just went up to Home depot and got a peice of sheet metal then made a card board template and cut it and bent it till it fit nice then i bolted it in at the bottom an zip tied it at the top corners. then i painted it black and put electrical tape around the edges so i would'nt cut my arms on it
