This skip is getting annoying tho its always had one so Im not really sure what the cause is.

Don't bother cleaning the distributor cap. its cheap and needs to be replaced. Brass is better than aluminum contacts but new aluminum is better than old worn out brass.

The rotor itself normally doesn't wear out and can be cleaned. If it is not pitted or wore out, I just re-use it. That's why many companies sell them separately.

PS: its a very common cause of "missing" on acceleration

Its the Camshaft position sensor under there. Its used in conjunction with the Crankshaft position sensor to remove the 180deg ambiguity when firing. They sense by induction (magnetic detector)

Engine won't run if either of those is defective. (it may run for a bit until the sensor warms up then........ crank crank crank... nothing)

Renix will run just fine with the distributor unplugged. Try it.

Not better, but will run and you probably won't notice the difference. Go ahead and try it.
