High Beam On: All lights go out

High Beam On: All lights go out
Hi,
Got a strange one on my 1999 XJ, when i turn the high beams on all the lights go out, the headlights go off, the dash goes dark. Sometimes after stopping it sorts itself out, other times it stays like that until the next day.
Not sure where to start, any ideas?
