Post High Beam flash works, High beams do not

Hello,

I am driving a 1996 jeep cherokee sport 6c. As the title suggests my day time running lights work. My High beam flash works however the highbeams do not. I pull back on the combination switch and the beams turn on, when i release the arm the highbeams turn off. Soo im guessing that is the flash function and the "non-flash highbeams" is not turning on at all. I just replaced the combination switch and it didnt help. Lucky i was able to return it.

Any suggestions? Im leaning towards the headlight switch, however i really do know if im capable of taking off the dashboard myself to acess the switch.

Thanks

I had this problem a while back. I'm absolutely certain it's the headlight switch in your case. You can pick up a brand new one for around 90$ at Advanced auto. Shouldn't be too much trouble to take the dash panel off to get to the headlight switch screws. Does all the other features on the headlight switch work like Domelight, low beams, and such?

Yes everything else works fine on the headlight switch and combination switch. Other then: when i pull the headlight switch the lowbeam lights only turn on once the jeep is in drive. (if thats a problem?)

When you replaced the combination switch, did you check and see if it fixed the headlights only turning on in "drive" issue?

No it did not fix the "drive" issue. Auto source has a headlight switch for 33$ im going to go grab 1 before the store closes.

Thanks for the help Ktown.
Just finshed replacing the headlight switch and the problem is fixed. Including the "Drive problem". Hardest part was getting the conntector unplugged. The conntector was melted to the headlight switch!

Good thing man, glad I was of some help. Those head light harnesses are a PITA to disconnect, especially when it's melted together xD.
