Default help w/ master cylinder!

This is a continuation of my previous post about the clutch not working. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/clutch-issues-25907/

I got the part from napa yesterday and a set of the suggested flare nut wrenches for the nut that holds the line on there.

Today when I tried to get the nut off 10mm did not fit (too small) 11mm did not fit (too small but almost fits) and 12mm was too big.

I got the 11mm wedged on there and tried to get the nut off of there, no luck it just started to round off. Now after all my attempts to get it off there, and it being in pretty bad shape to start with, its pretty well rounded off

Now that the nut is pretty well ruined.....what now?

can I just get a hacksaw, cut it close to the nut so a socket will fit on there, take it to napa and say I need a new nut?

Dont hack saw anything! This situation is one of the many reasons god gave us Vise Grips. Go get a 7 inch pair and you should be good to go.

Nothing seems to work to get this stupid nut off!!!!

It completely refused to move in either direction nothing I do will make this nut move.

I have blasted the hell out of it with PB blaster, used the proper tools, and any other thing I can think of that might work. This is my daily driver I need it back up and running.

I am desperate for help, nothing is working.

fully working Jeep stopped by a stupid little nut.

those things can get pretty stuck...
when i was working on my brakes a small project turned into me running all new lines, hoses, and replacing calipers and wheel cylinders because all the flare nuts were so stuck.

well I have no more time to work on it today. I called someone at work to come pick me up. If I have to replace the entire line I will but I would rather not. Nothing seems to budge this stupid thing.

If I re run the line do I have to use the same metal kind or is there a way to update it to the blue hydraulic tube with different ends so it fits right.

Like I said this is my daily driver and it needs fixed...whatever needs done has to be done. If I have to cut the whole damn line out and replace it I will.

Just looking for some ideas.....and someone to tell me that I can get the parts I need to do it at an auto parts store.

what were you thinking jamming a metric wrench onto a clearly imperial nut? Now then is this the nut that holds the line into the cylinder? if it is i would say you are boned! try with the vise grips some more, something i have done in the past is tack weld my vise grips to an extremely stuck rounded nut, but dont use a good set of grips! You WILL wreck them this way. yes napa or a parts place will have a replacement nut, even if you have to convince them to take it off of a part. New part you got is cylinder?

Yes the part I got is the master cylinder. And the reason I tried metric wrench is because that's what I thought it was. That is why I bought the set of flare nut wrenches.

Anyway, If I can just hack off the nut and replace that little piece and be done with it.

Thank's for the info though!

Vise Grips are about your only way out at this point. If you hack the hydraulic line you will be in way worse shape than you are now. Try heating the master cyl with a propane torch around where the line goes in...try not to heat the nut tho...

I don't have a welder or propane torch or anything like that. I can get some JB weld, If I JB weld the vice grips to the bolt let it set up really well. Think that will work?

The vice grips are completely replaceable so I dont give a crap... As long as the little nut is replaceable too I can try that. I just need to get the stupid thing apart.

So JB weld, yes no?

Yeah, I am really kinda screwed until I can get in touch with someone with a propane torch or something to heat it up some, and drive me a couple places. Its expensive taking a cab to the auto parts store!

I have been talking to anyone I can think of that has any mechanical experience at all. Going to call another friend tomorrow to see if he can come out and give it a shot.

He actually works at a napa so.....maybe.
