HELP Transmission won’t go forward
I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 with I believe is the 30RH automatic. This is not the AWD version. I was stopped at a light And Jeep will go into reverse fine but won’t go forward. As soon as you drop it into drive it dies. I was lucky to get it shift into drive once to limp it about 5 mph into a parking lot. Transmission didn’t make any strange sounds. The rpms are fine. It doesn’t rev up like a slipping transmission. It idles normal. It shifts into reverse and drives normal in reverse. Goes into neutral fine and revs normal. Fluid level in good and the normal red color. Transfer case is fine. Drivelines are fine. Fuel is fine because it idles and goes in reverse. Spark is fine because it idles. Charging system in fine because it has a new alternator. The starter turns over normal and starts up fine. It does have a slight leak in one of the tranny lines the goes into the radiator, but nothing big. The tranny line has been leaking like this for a while. I have always had a couple drips on the garage floor but no puddles. It has never ran out of fluid or been really low. I am stumped, but I don’t know much about transmissions. The only thing I haven’t done is drop the pan. Does anyone have any suggestions and what it could be. Is there a forward only solenoid or valve of some short.

The trans should be an AW4 if it's an XJ Cherokee.

I’m not sure on that year Jeep specifically. My 98 has a TCC solenoid and a 1-2 and 2-3 solenoid. Maybe you are staying in high gear or your torque converter is staying locked up. Seems like I read somewhere you can pull a fuse for the TCM and shift it manually through the gears to help verify if it’s a transmission problem or not

It's actually a "range selector" and it could be an issue. Never hurts to complete Tip 10 at www.cruiser54.com....
