Ok so i took it out to the trail for the first time and of coarse i broke a u joint and snapped the axle yoke. The stupid parts stores keep tryin to sell me a cv axle, and dont have the axle i need. So im gonna check a few junk yard and im wonder what exactly do i need so i can garentee i get the right shaft and all parts i need. Mine is an 92 laredo automatic 4.0. What is my axle d30? and how big of a project is it to fix it? Im doing it tomorrow so any quick help, links or directions would be greatly appreciated. I am somewhat mechanicly inclined just not to familiar with jeeps, so bare with me

 

That what I would say is try the jy and just take the part off of any dana30

 

Looks like you need an axle seal to

 

Grab the shafts from any ZJ that does not have CV shafts or from an XJ that has ABS or is a 95+. Doing so will get you the larger 297 u-joints.

Alright thanx a ton guys, im kind of in the dark on this stuff. So to clear this up, get a shaft from a 95+ xj or one with abs or one from a zj with a straight front axle? Plus an axle seal? And again how hard of a project is this?

 

The seal is inside the diff. You'll have to remove the carrier and drive the old seal out. Deanxj97 is probably talking about the shield that is on the yoke end of the inner shaft. It will be on the shaft you get from the JY.

Quick question, is it easy enough/not too time consuming, that i should just do both sides while im at it, or is it tough enough/time consuming, where im gonna do one side and not wanna touch it again untill the other side goes???

 

Well it could take a bit of time. So if you have the time to, go for it. I would just get the other side while I was at the jy.

 

Alright i'll do that depending on the price. Found them used on ebay for around 60-$100 so if they're around 50-$60 at the jy i'll get both sides.
And the pic below is what i am needing right? May be a dumb question but when i get the jy and they hand me the shaft i want to make sure its the right thing, i have to drive an hour to get the jy one way and cant afford to go twice cuz i got the wrong part.

Found one for $30 at a jy this morning so im getting both sides to be prepared for the next one to break.lol
