Do your self a favor, if you haven't replace those crappy factory speakers. Now would be a good time.
I have two 1" tweeters in the dash, two 5 1/4's (3-way) in front doors, two 6x9's (3-way) in the rear hatch. And a 10" sub in the rear passenger side pocket. All Rockford Fosgates. Very happy with the sound. When ever I put in a good aftermarket stereo system. I always run new 16 ga.speaker wire. factory wire is usually 18 ga. Too small, and you don't have to worry about the PO handy work. Also run new wire for the head unit. Have to for the amp anyways, So if any problem arise. I know where to look. (or who to blame) The 6x9's, I took apart the hatch, And opened the holes to fit them (from 5 1/4 original size). You can use a jig saw to do it.

I think the wires just break internally from bending at the door. Both my front factory speakers were blown and I had to run a new wire to the drivers side. My Jeep came with a beat up aftermarket cd player that I replaced with a free factory radio out of a 92 dodge shadow. It looks a lot better and doesn't rattle. And I have a clock now!

i had to replace the wires in the drivers door because they broke between the door and the interior. just worn out i guess. drivers door opens and closes a lot more than any other door so it makes sense that they stress and break.

My drivers door wiring harness had some major work done to it. I had the dreaded window lock button not working issue (passengers could not operate their windows), I fixed that with the help of the thread in this forum. My left front speaker also did not work. For now I have bypassed the harness with a pair of wires to get the sound working but I am looking for a new harness or someone who will take a used one and replace all of the conductors. I don't want a bunch of splices on a harness that is moved every time I open the door.
If it is just the front left speaker, do this, hook the speaker back up, remove the radio, identify the LF+ an LF- conductors on the radio end and check for resistance with an multimeter or ohm meter. You are looking for about 4 ohms. If the circuit is open then the conductors are broke, probable by the door. What I did was bypassed it with two strands of 14 gauge wire by splicing at the head unit end of the harness, ran the wires under the dash, taped them up and just ran them under the door panel. Looks a little tacky but it is only temporary. I tried to insert the wires into the grommet with the existing harness but it was two tight and I did not want to damage the grommet. I now have sound at the expense of seeing the wire move every time I open and shut the door.

The dealer sells the door harnesses, I just got a qoute for about $100 for a 2001 cherokee, Part # 56007579AC
You need to call them up and have them check your vin to get the correct part # -OR- see the link below, change the model year portion to the model year for your jeep and see if they have the micrfiche for your model year. This PDF has everything single part.

Seems that the first guy quoted me the wrong price and the wrong part number, the right part costs about $450. I have everything working now so I will put it on the back burner, may even look for a used one.
