Help oil leak
I have a 1988 cherokee 4.0. I just had the pan gasket replaced and the rear main seal. It is leaking oil still. the mechanic says it is leaking near the starter. That doesn't make sense to me. Could it still be leaking from the pan and look like it is from the starter area or is it something else. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. I am stuck out of town trying to get home

My husband talked to the local jeep dealer mechanic he said that if he used a neoprene gasket that you need to plug the existing front seal retaining holes in the timing chain cover with rtv sealant to insure a positive oil seal.
Our mechanic did not do that Could this cause the problem?

Ya.....check the oil filter adapter. My xj leaked from the pan, rear main, oil adapt. And valve cover. So if you knocked out the pan, rear main and valve cov. That's all that's left. Mine has not leaked since.
