Help! I think I might have f***ed up
So I replaced my distributor/camshaft position synchonizer on my 01 Cherokee 4.0. Being the idiot I am I figured i just needed to take the old part out and put the new one in. I tried to start it up after reinstallimg And it will not start now. I started researching it and apparently I was supposed to resync the timing somehow? Im not too familar with timing systems so I really hope I didn't **** something up.
If any of you have some advise, it would be greatly appreciated!

I’m not totally sure, but I think you’re supposed to turn the crank shaft to line it up before you remove it. I gather you didn’t do that? You may be able to do it after the fact, I don’t know. Otherwise, off to the shop it goes I fear. :-/

Pull the distributor and find top dead center for the engine. Remove #1 spark plug and put your finger over the hole and rotate by hand until you can feel a whoosh going out. Then put the timing mark on the crank pulley under the pointer. This is top dead center. Then install the distributor so that the rotor is in the 4 o,clock position. That should do it

So I reinstalled the distributor after finding TDC and I got it running!!! Bad news is the engine does not sound right. I'm hearing a really loud tick and the check engine light is still on. I'm scared to drive it to the nearest parts store to check the code as I don't want it to stall. I've included a video of the ticking sound if you/anyone has any pointers.

Fixed it!!! I think the engine was just misfiring, I removed and reinserting spark plugs number 1 and it started right up no problems. No check engine light either which means I fixed the timing code I was getting.
Thank you all!!
