Default I think I might have to face facts...my transmission appears to be on it's deathbed

So it all started last week after I washed the engine and undercarriage. As I was driving away from the car wash, she started rumbling really heavily. Thinking it was nothing more than a little water that needed to dry out, I just went about the next few days like nothing was wrong. Then, the rumbling got worse and worse, louder and more violent, with each trip out and about. I was thinking I might have screwed something up electronically after reading some posts on here.

No biggie, right? Then it got even WORSE. On the way back from a trip to the local JY, I was climbing up a mild hill with her ( normal on road use btw ) and all her power just stopped...I couldn't get over 20 MPH. I was pretty worried already...then it got EVEN WORSE...she stopped shifting gears...after another 3 days and steadily worsening performance, including high revving with extremely delayed shift, very very little power, massive rumbling and vibrating, clunking noises, and eating gas like never before, I've realized it's most likely that my trans is shot.

I'm changing the fluid on tuesday or wednesday when I get some more money ( wedding tuesday, plus expecting some money from pep boys due to some BS with a failure of a parts associate ), and i'm praying that it ends with a fluid change, that all that's wrong is I somehow got water/soap in the trans fluid. My question is, what does this sound like to you guys. Worse? Not as bad as it seems? Am I likely right? Am I completely wrong? HELP!!!!!!! Anya's trans is still too young to blow out like this! Any evidence of water on the trans dipstick?

If it did take water and is the cause of your issue.. you may have waited too long to act on it.

I have a transmission i just pulled from my Jeep, a 21 spline from an 88 which would work in your Jeep. If you can take a ride up to the Philly area i'll hook you up with a good deal. PM me if you like..

The damage is done, changing the fluid now would be like rearanging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

It shouldn't be to hard finding a used one if you go that route. I can't find a 46re within a 100 miles.

To rule out the TPS you need to volt test it with a digital multimeter then sweep test it with a analog multimeter.

My transmission seems to be doing the same thing your's is. To begin with it reverse acted like park and neutral like drive. Then all the gears started acting normal but it started taking forever to shift, i'd hear grinding, and violent shakes. I took it to a trans shop. They told me i need a new one. Then i drove it ~200 miles, and when i would shift, i'd see white smoke in my rear view mirror. Now it's back to shifting through the gears fine, except reverse is park, and neutral is drive.

So now i'm thinking that my trans isn't toast, and it's just something else. I would hate to replace the trans and there still be a problem.
