Default HELP!! Howling/"growling noise from front (DON"T think its the carrier bearing??)

I have a Howling/whining noise from the front of my 99 Jeep Cherokee (I put up a post a few days ago..). Someone said they thought it was a carrier/hub bearing, but I don't think so because I pulled of the wheels and rotors and spun the carrier hub ***., and NO noise on either side, also with the wheels on, I tried grabing the tire/wheel with my hands at 12 & 6 oclock and tried to move it in and out and absolutelly no play.....

The rotors were bad (and I thought that might be the casuse) so I replaced the Rotors, pads even new calipers, but it Still makes the noise!! I'm almost broke from all this and can't afford to keep replacing parts untill I really know whats causing it...could it be the ring & pinion or a bearing in the differential?? How can I tell?? Please anyone, HELP!!!

Phil

my girlfriends 96 sport makes a whining noise at low speeds, like in parking lots. It comes from the front, thinking its the diff, or a bearing...

Thats what I was thining is wrong with my girlfriends, there is a small leak on the bearing seal of the front diff... Of course, the way her dad is it wont get fixed until it breaks, and I dont have the tools or money to do it myself...

Keep in mind, that not all of the dark spot is still wet, most of it is dry...
Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread, bye guys...

Probably... Like I said, it wont get fixed untill something breaks, the solenoid has a stripped bolt (from PO) and every time it comes loose and wont start he just throws some locktite on it and calls it good... Llike I said, not all of that fluid is wet still, most is dry, but it does leak. I might mention it to him next time Im over there, but he wouldnt listen anyway..
Anyway, im trying not to highjack this post but maybe some of this conversation can be found helpful by the OP...

Mine 2002 GC is making the same noise. Kind of a grinding, like there's something rubbing in the drive train. This noise started when I had my tires rotated. Have removed both front bearings and axles, not problems there. Change lulbe in front universal joint, still there.
