temperature sensor problem?
I just replaced my temp sensor and now it won't move off of 130. My original sensor was going bad it would be all over the place on the gauge reading 210 then litterally a second later it read 180. thought it was time to get a new one. now with the new sensor my check engine light won't go off and it stays at 130. what's wrong?

Sounds like a bad sensor. The ECM is telling you that it is bad.
It is possible to have it at 210 and then drop to 180 if the thermostat opens and is a little sticky.

yea i'm going to replace the sensor for the third time today. I know the wiring is ok because if I put the original one back in there is atleast some kind of response on the gauge. so it must be the sensor. this will be my third new sensor. kind of annoying.

web site for XJ repair
http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/index.htm ,here is a web site I found, has a lot of stuff for the repair of XJ cherokee's,forgot what part it is in but, there is a section that tells you how to reset the EMC to factory settings when you replace or upgrade some parts.

I bought the first sensor from autozone. never again. about half the time i get a bad part from them. the second two were from Oreilly's Auto Parts. the first one looked used and I questioned the guy and he assured me it was new and fine. WRONG! that one was not good. So this morning I went back up to Oreilly's and exchanged the bad sensor for a new one and made sure it was new. put it in the Jeep and everything works great. as far as reseting the computer. thanks for the info but I do know how to do that. I reset the computer after I installed the new sensor and check engine light is no longer on. thanks all.

finally the fourth sensor worked. now I hope to test the accuracy with an infrared heat gun.
