HELP!!! Dash going nuts! Switches operating different components!
Hello my first post on here and i need help. Badly. I have a 1987 Jeep Cherokee, ran fine yesterday, pulled the cluster out to check the bulb of the check engine light. Only to find out after more research that they dont use a check engine light due to being pre OBD. Went to plug everything back in and everything went haywire. My running lights and dash lights come on automatically and, My rear defroster came on automatically and if i try and turn it off it causes all my lights and my gas gauge to flash and bounce like hazard lights. Jeep will also not start and stay running, it fires for a second then shuts off immediately. I need help ASAP please
Weird. I am sure everything only plugs in one way. Did you disconnect your battery first? I am just guessing here. But you might try to disconnect the battery and let it sit a bit. Maybe a computer reset will help. Good luck.
Note from DJ
You may have lost your Ground G102 therefore everything is trying to find a ground path through trough another bulb; Have a look at this diagram that I’m posting.
Thank you you guys ill have to check that out this weekend maybe it got kicked off while dismantling the front of the dash ill have to try that one out
Ok that didnt fix the problem i really dont know whats causing this. I did find a bare wire going to the ecu but not plugged into it wrapped around d16 and d8 wires
Figured it out the ground in the rear that grounds the rear hatch was broken and not making contact
Good to hear. Thats how fussy the XJ can be when a single ground goes bad. New ones, old ones, it doesnt matter. The wiring is a poorly designed trainwreck.
Thanks. When i pulled my rear hatch apart i noticed some wires that were unplugged with bullet connectors 1 black tested was a ground the other was two blue into one bullet connector and was only live with the running lights being on
