Help converting 99 XJ from ABS to NON-ABS
Hey there,
I know there are a lot of forum topics on this matter and I have done my research but none of them have really answered my questions.
Here is a little background information:
- I have a 1999 Cherokee XJ with a D30 front and D35 rear and it is equipped with ABS
- I want to convert my rear end to a Chrysler 8.25 (which doesn’t have ABS option)
- I also want to install an Airflow Snorkel (which doesn’t work with ABS)
- As you can see I need to remove my ABS
- No I don’t want to just remove the fuses and relay I need the entire unit removed
My concerns:
- I am basically looking for someone who has actually done this swap on a 97+ XJ
- What parts do I need from a NON-ABS equipped XJ?
- Are my Axles ABS specific or will I be able to keep my D30 up front?
- Do any of the computers in my Jeep need to be replaced with a NON ABS computer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As you can see I am new to the Jeep world. I come from the car world so a lot of this is new to me so please bare with me.
Thanks in advance!
Will

Heres a little update. After a lot of research i think i figured it all out.
The Master Cylinder and Brake Booster are identical between ABS and NON-ABS 97-01 Cherokee XJ's. The Prop Valve and Hardlines are what are different. So all you really need to purchase is a new Prop Valve and new hard lines. This i feel is the "right" way to do it, this is my personal opinion.
There is a way to use your existing prop valve and hard lines by bending the existing wiring, buying a t-fitting, some adapters, and makeing a couple double flares. Personally i dont feel this is very full proof unless you are well versed with a double flare tool and are confident in your skills and understanding of your brake system. I was not confident in myself and figured redoing the entire system was the safe and proper way to do it.
At this point i have removed the ABS system and am prepping the remove all the electrical wiring and ABS hard lines. I source a 99 NON ABS prop valve and hard lines so that is sitting in my garage waiting to be installed.
I will update as i get farther along.
