Default Help Can't get the Stabilizer shock off

Can't detach the stabilizer where it attaches to the steering rod. I can see its threaded but can't turn it off and don't really have room to put a big helper on the wrench. What do you guys do to remove these things? I tried PB blaster to no avail. I am trying to replace the stock stabilizer with a Rough Country one. Thanks, Rich

I have a 2001 and had the same problem, mine was not actually threaded, though it looks like it is. I used a gear puller and it pops right out

Hmmmm. Maybe mine isn't threaded where is connects. Looks like it is though. Wonder if I should try a hammer. Don't have a gear puller.

I thought mine was threaded until I looked at the new bolt that came with my new stabilizer then I realized it is just held in place with a nut on the end. Any auto parts store should either rent or loan you a gear puller. I tried using a hammer but couldn't get it out that way. if you use the puller be careful, because when it does come out it comes out fast!

Yeah it's a tapered stud that is pressed in. I couldn't hammer mine out while it was attached to the jeep, but once I pulled the drag link off, one swift hit knocked it out. You can use a pickle fork or a pitman arm type puller.

Gear puller is like $20. I struggled with mine for hours using other methods, finally bought the puller and had it out in under 60 seconds.
