Default Help! "Burnt Plastic" smell

Hey folks,

My 01 XJ has recently started to reek of "burnt plastic" when driving. It first happened when I had the heat blasting while driving, I also noticed some white colored smoke wafting up from under the hood. Now, it seems to happen mostly after I've been driving for 15 minutes or more whether the heat is on or not. It just happens.

Any ideas on what is causing this issue? I really need to get it fixed as I use my XJ to transport my wife and 2 year old around.

Other than the smell, the engine seems to run great and I have not noticed any changes in the ride.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

"Noggin' pokin' time". Open the hood & look for chared wires or any wires rubbing metal. Also look for any hoses or plastic on the exhaust manifold.
Any blow fuses lately?

only thing I can think of is to drive it till it starts smoking, then pop the hood and jump out to see what it is. Bring a fire extinguisher with you just in case. Lol

heater blower resistor or the fan control switch plug. My fan control switch plug shorted and started to smoke through the inside vents, dash and through the air intake vent under the windshield. It melted it bad enough that I had to replace the plug and the switch. Have a fire extinguisher and a wrench to remove the b a t t e r y cables as a cautionary move.
Hope this helps

Burning tupperware smell & white smoke from under the hood might be transmission or power steering fluid hitting a hot exhaust.
