Exclamation Help!! 1998 Cherokee 4x4 HOT floor!!!

Hi again from Nicaragua! Getting down to the final stages of buying this 1998 Cherokee classic 4.0L, automatic, 4x4! 105500 miles. Driving it tonight and we noticed the floor is very hot. My wife set her purse down on the front floor passenger side and the bottom of the purse was very warm. is this normal? If not, any idea what could be wrong? As well I could feel some warm air on the front driver side?? Were taking it into a mechanic tomorrow morning to get the vehicle looked at--as I would do for any used vehicle. Not sure how great the mechanics here are. Any info would be super. Thanks

Could be as simple as a missing heat shield over the cat. convertor.

Heated floors are a feature included in the 96' and up cherokee, before the heated seats feature was really implemented in newer vehicles. The trend never caught on.

Or it is your tranny, that gets hot and is normal. Check the fluid level, and check for a tranny cooler by your radiator if you want to worry about it.

I have not checked the fluids yet, just test drove it and drove it again tonight. the gal dropped it off at our place as we have an early morning appt at the mechanic. Guess I need to find out what a Heat Shield should look like, lol Thanks

Could it be an exhaust leak? I just dropped an engine in my 98 and havnt hooked the exhaust up and my floors do get warm from that.

It really shouldn't be an issue. Is the carpet in it still? Feel the shifter and transfer case handle, mine sometimes get too hot to touch for more than a few seconds.

I just went and checked all the fluids, all appears to be ok! Engine feels very hot form our drive but the thermostat gauge appeared ok(seemed to be working, lol)

We noticed wet front passenger side carpet a few days back. She took it to her mechanic and said they had found a small leak in the AC system. She had it repaired.

Shall see what the mechanic has to say. TY

dude warm floor on these things... totaly norm!! these engines make alot of underhood heat aswell... totaly norm! the hot air inside while driving could be this... on the drivers side fire wall, there is a rubber grommet that has, I believe, the hood latch cable running through it... I popped mine out once doing something and drove the Jeep for a week with it out.. it blew hot air inside the cab from under the hood while moving of course... nothing wrong just a little rubber grommet out of place...
