The late model XJ's do not have a HCV. There is no reason removing the HCV would make it not run hot. Possibly heater core clogged, t-stat not functioning properly, etc. Blend doors would be the main issue.

It is? It seems to me something that was called a "Heat Control Valve" would do that. I shall have to ponder removing mine although perhaps that might affect the ac in the summer with a full flow of coolant running to the core constantly?

If your blend door is working properly, then when you are running AC in the summer the air coming out the vents should never come in contact with the heater core at all, so it should have no effect.

Also if the heat control valve was so important, why did Chrysler stop putting them on the later models?

HCV Removal

Well, you guys ponder all you want.

The heat is controlled by the blend air door. I've eliminated at least 10 of them here in Arizona and my AC always works perfectly.

Let's not have this thread turn into one of those where folks think theory and conjecture trumps actual field experience which has been proven time and time again, by numerous different people.

It flat works. Period.

I've already stated the other benefits of keeping coolant flowing versus being stagnant in the heater core and the dangers/disastrous results of having one fail unexpectedly whether you're poking around the engine bay or driving down the highway or trail.

X10000 on eliminating them! Never happened on the XJ, but I have had HCV's crack on me while I was driving, and it wasn't fun. (95 GMC Vandura and 97 Ford Explorer.

When I got my 99 xj, first thing I did was to check if there was any HCV, there were none, I'm glad Chrysler eliminated it.

It isn't a heat control valve. It's a HEATER control valve. Meaning it controls the flow of coolant to the heater core, not the amount of heat going into the car, LOL
