Hey guys, I have been doing a bit of research but cannot find anything specific. I am currently working in Qatar, so needless to say, it gets really hot here. I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 auto, and have been noticing on the last few drives that the engine will randomly stall when idling at a stop. I have always been able to immediately restart the engine, no hesitation whatsoever. The stall only happens when stopped and idling, and not while driving. I cannot for certain say whether it only happens when the transmission is in gear or neutral or park.
I also have noticed that while driving there is sometimes a miss, and sometimes that there is a miss I will see my oil pressure gauge drop but then slowly come back up.
Any ideas? Vapor lock? Fuel pump going out? IAC or TPS?
My daughter's jeep is doing the same thing. They say to replace the fuel filter, or to insulate your fuel lines to keep from getting too hot, but after doing both, her jeep keeps vapor locking which causes it to stall out. Anyone else with advice would be appreciated.
PLEASE, before posting technical questions, take some time to help others out, by adding details in the user control panel. There's 2 ways to do this. First, in the upper left corner on the front page of the site, is a menu button labeled UserCP.
After you click on that you'll see this menu:
Please take the time to click on the highlighted sections and fill out the vehicle information for your vehicle. The signature link is also helpful for any additional information like mods done, links to your build or other vehicles owned.
This helps EVERYONE out by informing them immediately about your year, make, model, etc.
These details are necessary for responders to accurately answer your questions without guessing or having to ask what are the specifics of the vehicle you are referring to. You can add these details easily and permanently by creating a signature or adding your truck details to your existing signature.
5 minutes of your time doing this now will save a ton of time and effort later.
I’d replace the idle position sensor first to see if that’s the issue. Those are pretty typical symptoms. You could also pull your throttle body and give it a good cleaning. Be careful with the gasket and don’t break the bolts off.
