Default Headlight Switch Harness

Hey everyone. I recently changed out the headlight switch in my 90 Laredo and was a little dismayed at the state of the switch harness/plug and old switch. Aside from the rust it had collected (from exposure, i guess), the plastic harness was melted and broken in some places. the switch had rusted so much that the **** was locked in place.

At any rate, before i install the new switch i'd like to replace the harness. I've called all of the JYs in this area and none of them have any XJs that are older that 1994 (sad). Do any of you know where i might order the harness online?

Thanks!

Can you salvage the plastic plug and clean the contacts?

Is the rest of the harness melted or something?

Is it melted so bad you couldn't plug it into a new switch?

the way the renix switch works is (since there are no relays for the lights) battery-switch-light-ground. after a while, that doesnt work too well. I have the same issue, but i will be wiring in relays to take the load off of the old wires. ill do a write up. although mine is a waggy, the only difference is that i have 4 headlights instead of two dual filament lights.

You could get one from someone parting out their truck.

I still have one in my parts truck that I listed here, however it got uber cold so I put that on hold for awhile.

I believe the plug is the same as a Ford. I wonder if Napa or the like would have one. Now's a good time to consider adding an upgraded headlight harness, huh?

@cruiser - yeah, the plastic plug is to the point where the spade ends are coming out and whatnot. i'm definitely going to upgrade the harness for this guy. If I cant find a plug for it, can i just hook up the wired spade connectors directly to the switch?

@Gee oh Dee - Do you know which models use the same plug? I may go that route if I can find one.

@jakbob - I appreciate that. let me know if/when you do a writeup on it.

Many years of Cherokees and Jeeps in general, along with Ford used the same plug at teh switch.

Thanks cruiser54. I made the upgraded headlight loom and that took A LOT of the load off the headlight switch. I think i'm good to go for now. :-)
