The switch is under-engineered, so failures there are not rare. Many put in a headlight harness that takes the load off the switch to prevent future problems. It's a good idea.

This is an example of what BRM is referring to:

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f74/he...pgrade-219596/

As he stated, it's a well-known weakness in the XJ's so this is a very popular, inexpensive and effective fix.

Let us know how it goes.

Absolutely. Just do the simple supplemental harness and your lights will stop doing that. Also, they will be 35% brighter and the headlight switch will not fail.

And it will slice your bread and wax your car for you, too!

Seriously, it's a good mod.

Search on Australian Ebay. Somebody there will surely be selling a similar one so you don't have to import it. Or you can check Australian offroad stores to see if any of them have their own version. I know of at least three guys in the US who make their own and sell them, just not as cheap as that Ebay harness linked above. Surely somebody in Australia is doing the same thing.

ARB sells one, but although it's fantastic, it's about $70 overpriced. Somebody will have a cheaper one. Once you find one, post what you bought in case another of your countrymen finds this thread later.

Just ordered the harness that Cruizer recommended. Last week I replaced the old sealed beams with Hella H4's. Much better than stock but still not as bright as they should be. I am hoping the harness will get more power to the lights and make them brighter.

I have 2 concerns: first, it says the harness is NOT compatible with my car (2001 XJ) and, second, it came with factory fog lights. I'm sure the harness will work with my Jeep but will the fact that it has fogs interfere with anything?

Thanks EZEARL! I thought I read something about it but couldn't find the thread. That was a big help!
