Default Head Bolts

When every one here replaces the head gasket.Do you re use the head bolts or need to buy new ones?Ive been told newer vehicles have gone with a different type of bolt that needs replacing after the torqe is reached and released

The screws used on the 242ci I6 are a modification of the Torque To Yield design, and are only designed to handle two torque cycles. The first time they are pulled and retorqued, the heads should be marked with paint.

The second time, they are pulled out and replaced.

I seem to want to recall that they have convensional SAE8 markings on the head (SAE makes sense - they're threaded 1/2"-13...) but I've yet to evaluate whether standard SAE8 or SAE L9 screws can be used in their place.

Why don't your usual parts stores know how to get a new set of head bolts when you go there to get a head gasket set? I had to dig for them online. Even then, I don't know the people who I am buying them from.
