Hard time shifting

Hard time shifting
So I took my jeep camping this weekend. When I went to leave it wouldn’t shift into gear. They just seemed to be blocked. When I tried reverse it grinded a bit then went in. Then after a bit I got it to go into 1st and then all the gears. The pedal seemed kind of soft the first half of the pedal.

Sounds like
a) it's a manual transmission (you should have specified)
b) the clutch hydraulics need replacement
I recommend replacing both the clutch master and slave cylinders.
