i don’t know how to answer about running rich except the exhaust does not have a strong gas smell....the mpg is about 15....it’s a 2000 cherokee classic 4.0 auto....has 250,000 and original owner replaced engine 2 years ago and 8,000 Miles....I have owned for 3 months and it runs great just hard start as described....I wonder if you can help identify the 4 sensors on the intake and 1 vacumn port
1. IAT - Intake Air Temp
2. MAP - Manifold Absolute Pressure
3. TPS - Throttle Position Sensor
4. IAC - Idle Air Controller
5. That port is unused on every 2000 ive come across. It is capped with a rubber plug.
Hot starts can be slowed from leaking injectors. THis causes for excess fuel to pool after the engine is shutdown. When attempting to restart, this fuel needs to be mixed with more air before it ignites. I replaced with FIC remans and a new FPR on the rail. Problem solved.

18 years, 250k - if the injectors are original it wouldn't be a big surprise if it's time for replacement.

I was going to suggest that because I suspected the same on mine, but yesterday it threw a CEL and I found two codes for the MAP. So I'll replace that and if it fixes the hard hot-start issues I've had I'll report back.
Thank you all for ideas and since it’s not a daily driver I have not made it urgent but I think if it is injectors leaking then extra fuel poured into cyclinder is going to cause other problems.....I assume the fuel pump pushes pressure to injectors all the time?
