so the brakes on my 94 (non abs) are terrible. the pedal goes down about an inch and feels like youre hitting a brick wall. no matter how hard you push it barely stops the truck. ive driven plenty of vehicles with no power brakes and this is like the line is frickin plugged or something.

I KNOW the booster is good and its getting vacuum.
slide pins are free and lubbeeedddd
calipers are not seized and pistons return as they should
i bleed all the brakes and im getting fluid so in theroy i "shouldnt" have a plugged line.

ive tried searching but mostly find dead end threads with no solutions or people saying "its the booster i know 100% just change it"

almost scary to drive this thing. im thinking replace the master but honestly having my doubts it will do a thing.

Could be your brake pads. I like Wagner Thermo-Quiet.

I don't think they make rear shoes for our XJs though. IIRC, I just used whatever O'Reilly's had for them.

If your rotors are glazed, that could reduce stopping power. Look into getting them turned, or just replace them with Chinese-made ones.

Also, make sure your rear brakes are actually working. If the pistons inside the wheel cylinder(s) are seized, that could contribute to a hard pedal. You would have been able to bleed them regardless.

yes i did fluid at each wheel.

also as far as the pads/rotors, they are fine. even metal on metal should stop better then this..

i guess checking the wheel cylinders is my next approch, didnt think of that.

well for one i tested it, by starting the engine and pedal sunk, and then i actually changed it for a used one out my parts jeep with no difference.

to be honest it feels about the same EXCEPT its easier to push with it running, (duh) it moves about an inch or two and has the absolute hardest spot. you can barely get it to stop moving without two feet. the booster is working. i just dont know where else i should look at this point. all the brakes look fine, the wheel cylinders are fine. the brakes actually look way better then i thought they would. im stumped.

You said that before, but have you done ALL the tests on the page that was linked?

A parts Jeep could have a bad booster, too, especially if it's been sitting for a while.

When you open a bleeder, does the brake pedal move smoothly and easily all the way to the floorboard?

I should of asked my brother when he was pushing the pedal but with the amount of fluid coming out on my end i am assuming it went all the way to the floor.

YES, all the tests on that page and it seems fine. im saying. 99.9999 percent sure its working as it should.

i dont see where or how to measure the clearence. i dont think thats an issue.

i will not be able to work on it untill next weekend. i might go just get a rebuilt master and try that.

the brakes were working perfectly fine until a few months ago thats when i put the booster on and just left it until now. the best way to describe what its like is if there is something stuck under the pedal not letting me push it anymore...
and yes i checked that!! lmao.
