Default Guess what...another misfire question.

Hey guys and gals, by way of intro, my name's Jerred, I live in NC, and am the proud owner of a 2001 XJ.

The misfire I'm experiencing is on cylinder #3, it doesn't seem to have too big of an effect on the performance. Starts just fine and rarely has a rough idle, but I keep getting a check engine light and a code for a misfire on #3.

I'm also getting an evap leak code. So, I checked the vaccum connections around the throttle body using the carb cleaner method, but I didn't get any indicaiton of a leak on any of those.

I'd appreciate any help you could give me.

Cylinder 3 Intermited miss fire = Heat soak on number 3 injector..

The main causes for a misfire on the 2000-2001 are the spark plug boots under the coil packs ,or the ev6 connectors on the injectors being loose.//// But yes when you shut the jeep down after it is up to temp then restart it after you will have an injector that has vapor lock but once you are driving down the road it will clear its self up and then your back to normal. And like 98jeepsrt6 said its #3 injector,Ibought the insulating pad from the dealer and it worked for me.( I still have a small evap leak code)Name: 93C_peelout[1].gif

Went to Auto Zone last night, because it was barely starting. 5 1/2 year old battery bit the dust in the parking lot. RIP.

Anyway, I asked the guy behind the counter about an insulating sleeve for the injector and he looked at me like I had 3 eyes, and said he had never heard of that part. Guess I'll go to O'Reillys tonight.

Also checked the evap box connections, and one hose looked a little worn, but was still connected fairly well.

LOL ive become used to it, i learn to talk stupid so those guys can understand.. Most of the time im telling them where to look for parts on the computer. Next time they say they never heard of that part, tell them its not a part its an accessory, and it insulates the injector, u know like how a a house has insulation to keep the heat out and cold in.. I normally get the OoOo i know what your saying now, Are you looking for this?? Damn it NO.. NVM.. Those are my days at advance auto.

Im sure Orielys would have that sleeve.

The part is $8.33 with TAX in NY. You can only get it at the dealer and they know EXACTLY what your talking about..

Here is what to look out for.. It wont fit on the injector.. You have to cut it.. Its just a 3 or 4 inch peice of insulation thats coiled to fit around injector. If you open it up too far to slip on without making a lip it will be loose on the injector. Mine is falling off now as a result of being opened and cut wrong.. Its not as simple as you think as it does not slip on.. You should buy two of them and double wrap the thing.. Its really a pain in the *** to get it to fit. You have to cut the peice into 2 peices, put one under the injector and one over the top to overlap as per the Technical Service Bulliten.. Bunch of aholes at chrysler could not make one that you could fit right. Im going to use a peice of copper wire or high temp wire to tighten it around injector.. LOL.. You will see what I mean!! Stupid fix.. Fits like crap.. Its IMPORTANT to get it as low on the injector as you can.. The heat from the exhust manifold boils the gasoline in injector 3.. Sheild it any way you can with high temp insulation that wont catch fire..

Just use the insulating sleeves for the plug wire boots for next to headers, just use your imagenation to install it.Napa has them hang up on the shelves.
