Default Grinds going into reverse...

I have a 98 sport, 4wd 5speed. About 40% of the time, my transmission grinds when I try to put it into reverse. And the clutch is pressed down all the way.

Also, every once in a while, it won't go into reverse at all. It just gets stuck between neutral and reverse and I have to take it out and try a few times before it engages...

Is this a common problem? Is there even a synchro on reverse gear that might need replacing?

Mine behaves in a similar fashion. I've just been gentle when shifting into reverse, or shifting into 5th before R.

Yup! That's exactly what I have to do as well. Been like that since the day I got her

It's done for, you should get rid of it. I'd be happy to take it off of your hands

Thanks for the reassurance. Wasn't too worried about it, just wanted to know if it was a common AX15 quirk.

Screw 1st. I always put it into 3rd then 4th, to get reverse stopped instantly. looks like you are sawing at the gears but you get reverse faster.
