Grinding while making sharp turns in 4wd?

Grinding while making sharp turns in 4wd?
I experienced some it sounded like a grinding or scraping, the kind of noise that makes you cringe.
Any ideas as to what it could be?

if you have a 231 its the chain. regular pavement isn't good for it, too much regular driving with it will stretch it.
