The grinding sounds like a wheel bearing to me also I would jack up that side of the jeep until the drivers side wheel is off the ground. Then place one hand at 12 oclock and one hand at 6 oclock and shaie the wheel back and forth if it is loose then the wheel bearing is shot.

Also does the popping coming from the steering wheel only happen when turning a certain direction? and does it happen all of the time even if you are stopped and try to turn the wheels?

the steering wheel does that while im driving and while im parked, i think it may be a u joint in the steering column ill check later. and if it were the wheel bearing wouldnt i grind while going straight instead of only when i make right hand turns

Not necessarily. The passenger side wheel bearing went out on my old rig, and it only made a grinding sound when I was turning (especially at low speeds) and when I hit a large bump. Like Nor-CalJeeper said,
" jack up that side of the jeep until the drivers side wheel is off the ground. Then place one hand at 12 oclock and one hand at 6 oclock and shaie the wheel back and forth if it is loose then the wheel bearing is shot."

An entire hub assembly is like 90 bucks or so, and not too hard of a fix.

it sounds alot to be a wheel bearing problem,, I am currently having the same issue

- It only happends sometimes(usaly after a while of driving)
- I usaly only hear it at low speed and turning a certain way
- And If I apply the brake while at low speeed the sound goes away.

I never got around to changing it but im almost positive that is my problem, and most likely your as well

I dont think the Ujoint in your steering will sound like that
