Got a new XJ
So i sold my 96 xj becuase it was 2 wheel drive and got a 1990 cherokee laredo 4 wheel drive . I have a few questions. Why is this thing so slow? It has the 4.0 straight 6 and so did my old one and this one just has no *****. Could it be the fuel filter? Or what can it be? Next question. The 4 wheel drive goes into 4 lo and 4 hi and all that but sometimes it is hard to get back into 2 wheel drive. I think the vaccum connection is not that good. It has 2 hoses that run into one peice then that one peice goes onto 2 studs. Should i just run the hoses directly into the stud? Also my last question. There is a switch that says trans and then underneath it if you push the switch up it says for power and if you push it down it says for comfort. What is that all about? Thanks
1: Your '96 was a High Output 4.0L while the '90 is a Renix 4.0L. That will make a difference.
2: There could be a crack in the line somewhere, or your linkage needs a greasing/adjustment so that it can fully move back into position.
3: The Renix XJ's got a Power/Comfort option for the transmission shift points. Comfort allows for a lower RPM shift point to make it more comfortable/non-noticeable shift while the Power allows it to shift at higher RPM for a more of a sporty acceleration/ride.
The Power/Comfort option was taken away after the '90 model, along with the Renix 4.0L, and the transmission was just hardwired from the factory in Power. So your '96 XJ was set in Power which could also have an effect on why the '90 has "no *****" along with having a Renix. Also, you will need to factor in the fact that you went from a 2wd to a 4wd.

Have you done a compression check on it,it should be at least 120 to 150,the trany switch is for when you want to pick-up speed quicker,in the power mode it shifts at a higher rpm,i think the owners manual says use it when towing or getting on freeway,I just use it when I need it.
