got my xj today, just had a few ?'s what rearend and it don't act like it wants to shift into od.

no lift. are you sure on the rearend i tought the 35 had a rubber plug in it

That looks like a Dana 35 but here a website that can shows what axles are what.

It is a D-35 and you can get metal plugs for them.

it said the 35 has a pastic or rubber fill plug and the 44 has a screw in one which is what this one has.

no problem just wanted to make sure. have to change it out anyways the last guy who had it welded it. so it stays locked. any ideas why it don't act like it wants to shift into OD?

I hate transmissions I fought like hell just changing out the filter on mine. ugh. PIA job

Try adjusting the linkage underneath and see if it will go into OD then. I am not sure but there is alot of INFO on the AW-4 tranny google will be your friend here if no one else can help you out.

oh and the TC has been changed out. he said it came out of a 94 model. the chain broke in the other one and broke the case. what TC would this one be and is it good?

The NP-242 is full time 4WD with the following ranges
2W High
4W High Differentiated
N
4W High Lock
4W Low Lock

The NP-231 is a part time 4WD unit with the following ranges:
2W High
4W High Locked
N
4W Low Locked

the orginal shifter had part time 4wd then 4hi but he said now when you pull the shifter up it is in 4hi no part time anymore.
