just so you know 235 is only the width. that tells us nothing about what tires your running. biggest thing is search. what you posted earlier was not a basturd pack. to make one is to take 2 different leaf spring sets and combine them to make 1. no dont just set 1 on top of the other you seperate them and "weave" them together if you will.

Hopefully ill be going to the jy soon, might not happen tell thursday though. When i go what should i look for for leaf springs. Get s-10 leaf springs right?

I was in the exact same position you are in. I didn't have the money, I was on stock tires, and I wanted it lifted more than anything. I found a set of used 31's at a local used tire shop for $80 bucks and couldn't pass it up. Saved for just a few months longer and purchased the 4.5" kit rather than the 3" kit. I saw it as a waste to spend the money on the 3" kit if I was just going to completely replace it in te future. After weighing everything out, I saw the 4.5" kit to be the best option in the long run. Best part is, I can go from 4.5" to 6" or 6.5" easily with this kit, coil spacers, shackles, and an sye. After having this kit now, I can honestly saw I would have been disappointed with a 3" kit and would be kicking myself in the rear for spending the money on it. I looked at lift kits for two years, and slowly changed my opinion from a 3" kit being all I needed, to 4.5" not being enough but fine for the time being. Just my .02

Yes, it does ride rough and is my daily driver for 100-300 miles a day when working. I love the way it rides because it holds to the road like a compact car. It holds to the road better now than it did stock, which really says something. I hated the rough ride for the first week or two after I lifted it, but now that I got used to it, I wouldn't have it any other way. Having a rough ride isn't as bad as it sounds. I have impressed many people with the handling capabilities it has for being a lifted Jeep.

What all needs to be changed when going from stock to the 4.5 lift or even just to a 3 lift?

I'm not sure as I have not installed that lift and have never riden in a Jeep with it installed. My guess would be no because it is an AAL kit. The coil springs from my kit are stiffer than stock, but not that bad. The full leaf packs from Rough Country are stiff with a high spring rate. An AAL kit will grant you the boost you are looking for, while still maintaining a lot of your Jeeps ride qualities.

Honestly, the ride with my kit isn't that bad. Everybody thinks a rough ride is the end of the world, but I see it as a benifit now that I have it. You will lose a drink from a cupholder hitting a bump in my rig, but you're not going to hurt your back.

Ok well, i think i am going to stick with the 3inch, not because of the ride quality but for the money for now and it will get me more room to improve. As for the "if you hit a bump and you lose your drink" i already have that problem. I only have 2 cup holders and they are in the back and you cant even put a bottle of pop their haha

Haha I hear you on the cup holder thing. I used to have the over the ebrake cup holder deal but I removed it when I moved to the top of the mountain for those extra three clicks. Now I have none, which I plan to do something about eventually. My Jeep isn't a luxury car, it's a utility vehicle, a moving truck, a work truck, a daily driver, and my toy. It's always been that way and always will be.

P.S. Now that I think about it, I've onlyhad one problem with the ride being rough in the Jeep. I've had to put some teflon take on a few interior screws tht have been pulled out too many times and have lost their grip in te plastic because of it. That's the only problem so far besides the death wobble, but that is the Jeep, not the lift kit.

Its very intersting getting multiple people in my jeep, if i hit a bump to hard the back tires rub
So after i lift i may need to look out for falling objects from the roof
Would i need an adjustable trac-bar, swaybar disconnects, if i lift it 3 inches?

The adjustable track bar I'm not sure about, but I'm pretty sure you would be ok with stock. I'm at 4.5" of lift with the stock track bar relocated per the lift kit specs. Sway bar disconnects are not needed for any lift kit to drive on the road. The purpose of disconnecting your sway bars is to be able to fully flex the suspension while offroading. Sway bars should NEVER be disconnected for on road use. This is providing your lift kit comes with extended sway bar links, as most do.

I dented the hell out of my quarter panels bottoming out on an unmarked speed hump. Be careful as it can get ugly with a fully loaded Jeep.

The kit that i want to get says that its needed with a 4-6inch lift so i should be fine, i was just making sure. My sway bar is bolted up to one of its mounts because its loose so it makes a loud thunk noise, if on rough surfaces.

and im getting this kit: http://www.roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_3x.html

And as for speed bumps was the one you hit not yellow? thats the only way i notice them, and if i got people in the jeep with me i make sure i go slower over them.
