Default Good gear puller for harmonic balancer?

I am going to buy a gear puller to get my harmonic balancer off of my old motor and I was considering one from Harbor Freight. Anybody have a suggestion? They have a few to choose from. I'd like to buy one that's tough enough to last a while, not a throw away model.

I recommend an installer as well as a puller. These take the frustration out of the job. I've added a few extra bolts to my kit over the years as various jobs have come up. Doesn't have to be top brand, just don't get rammy in the removal or install. Some times you have to improvise.

I love that first photo.

Are your oil filter adapter seals leaking?

OP: Unless you do this a lot, why don't you just go to AZ or O'Reilly's and do the loan-a-tool thing?

Thanks for the pics peep. The installer seems a bit pricey compared to the puller.

I didn't think about that. How long do they let you keep the tools?

You keep them as long as you want. When you are done bring the tools back and they give you your money back.

I see. Kind of like a better option of buying/returning after use.

O'Reilly's has a time limit to get the refund, I believe. You might want to call both places to find out. NAPA might have a similar program.

Don't have a tool loan program in my town, that's nice if you have it. Buy the tool if you will use it several times on your job and others. If you are young and will be a motor head for years to come you may want your own tools. Else a load is a good program. Better yet convince your brother in law to buy the tools set and borrow it. If you buy, don't loan it to him as he will somehow loose half the parts and break half the rest. With respect to the filter adapter leak, yes that's one of the places. Plan some seals service when the spring weather arrives.

Dont buy pullers from horrible freight. They are made of a very cheap crappy casting and will almost always break, ask me about mine breaking on the first use with a 3/8 ratchet...
