Default God forsaking Squeal!

I just got done replacing the radiator, thermostat, water pump, serpentine belt, hoses & temp sensor on my '96 Country due to some over heating issues. Now I have to figure out how to get the aux fan working again.. Anyway, the darn thing is squealing like a pig when the AC is engaged. It didn't do it before I replaced all this equipment and it doesn't sound like it's coming from the AC side, but rather the tension pulley or that area.

Any ideas?

push down on your belt and see what the deflection is,it should be between a 1/4" amd 1/2",if it more than that it is loose.

mine happens when i'm backing up a hill really slow.... this started after i took a air compressor to my block. turns out it was some grease that got on the belt and made it slip when its under a lot of strain.

I've gotten dirt and mud in the grooves on my belt that caused it to squeak. Took a wire brush being VERY CAREFULLY while it the engine was running a held it to the belt to knock the grit out and fixed my problem.

I checked the tension on the new belt and it's nice & snug. It only happens with the AC on and mostly under quick acceleration. I think it embarrases my 16 year old Daughter. Maybe that's a good thing as it keeps her from led-footing it!

The 4.0L serp belt needs to be comically tight. Really. Go in there and adjust your tension. Its gotta be tight on the 4.0 or it will squeal.

Thanks

you need to be careful with this, you can tighten the belt to the point it will put alot of stress on the alt, water pump,ac comp, etc. It could lead to premature failure of the bearings. how much deflection do you have now?

Depends on if it's me pushing on it or Hercules! If I twist it, how much play should i have? If I push it in with normal force how much play?
