Getting Door Keys Made
I just bought an '89 cherokee but the key for the doors is broken in half and the lower part with all the peaks and valleys is missing. Could I contact a chrystler dealership, give them the vin number, have the key looked up, and possibly buy one or two from them? Or am I stuck having a locksmith make keys for it?

You can also do it at the dealership cost about 10 bucks and they cut it from your vin, you just need proof of ownership( at least at my dealership). Although bones ideas sounds cheaper and more and less hassle. Good luck dude

Easiest way around this... I work at Ace Hardware and have cut A LOT of keys. All you have to do is bring the broken key to them and they can put both halves in the vise and make you a new key from it. Car keys are only double sided so that they work no matter what way you put the key in the keyhole and since both sides of the key are identical they only need one side to copy it to both sides. I know my store only charges between $2.99-3.99 for car keys. Hopefully this helps and works out for ya!

I had a locksmith come out to me and cut a key using the lock cylinder from my glove box for $50 but costs may vary. I tried the dealer VIN thing bit was told my 1990 was too old.

Pull the lock cylinder and take it to a locksmith. They'll make the right key for you.

Thanks guys! I'm going to have to pull a lock cylinder and take it to a locksmith as my dealer in town told me that Chrysler does not provide key codes for something as old as an '89.
