Default General maintenance

hey guys i finally bought my first cherokee its a 98 with 119k on it and its in very good condition i would say other then a few surface rust spots which hopefully shouldnt be to hard to fix. Other than that no leaks everything works great.

My question is what maintenance should i do on it i already changed the oil and oil filter i checked tire pressure the air filter is good.

im thinking about doing a trans flush and differential fluid flush , ima change the spark plugs and spark plug wires.

What else would you guys recommend i do, and is getting a trans flush a good idea?

thanks

Prob don't need a flush... myself I would just change the filter. Also watch the.cooling system. A cooling system flush would be a great idea! Lots of threads about it here. Also welcome to the Cherokee kingdom!

Difs good plugs cap rotor wires good. If you flush cooling make sure you do heater core first separate from the rest... gets a lot of crap built up. Don't forget to hit all the zerk fittings on your suspension... hmm what am I leaving out... oh if your bored it wouldn't hurt to pull and clean all your grounds and connectors and pack everything with dielectric grease... also if your bored pull all your external lights clean and pack with dielectric grease. If the trans is shifting ok I would have mixed feelings on the flush... that's all... if I think of something else ill let you know :-)

Just as preventative maintence I would clean your Throttle Body with some seafoam asa well as your TPS and IAC...they are all extremly simple to clean. Also how does your serp belt look? What about your battery terminals and grounds?

serp belt is good no tears or cracks, battery is good as well so ima do diferential flush for now and transmission shifts good and smooth. So maybe i dont need a trans flush.

But uh is there like a write up of all maintenance that should be done and at what millage. I went to mazda miata forums and they have a nice garage sections and a write up of what should be change at what millage and also what should be change when bought it used. Its really nice.

Differential Fluid and Transfer case fluid change is always at the top of my recommendation list, since the average owner doesn't care or know how to change them - they're most likely full of the original fluid, or close to it.

yes i was about to ask about the t case if that should be flushed. I also replaced my sway bar links today. Now what kind of fluid should go into diff and t case ? My bro asked in his shop about the trans and the guys said if it shifts fine not to mess with it cuz it could cause it to leak. So no trans flush for me.

Check the color of your fluids, including your power steering fluid and brake fluid.

How do you flush the diff? Or do you take it into a shop to do that? I doubt the shop since it's not the transmission.

Just open it up and get in there with some carb or brake cleaner. Clean it up as best you can put it back together and fill er up.
