Default Gear Ratio Help

Hi,
I already searched and did not have any luck answering my question. I am wondering what gears my cherokee has is it. It has the 8.25 out back and dana 30 in the front. I am assuming they are the 3.07s, but I'm unsure. If they are the 3.07s i might regear in the future. It doesn't have much power with 31s.

Odds are if you have an auto, you have 3.55 and if you have a manual 3.07. But, to know 100% you will need to pop a cover and count R&P teeth

Quick rule of thumb if nobody has ever changed the gears:

3.55s in an auto, 3.07s in a manual.

If u divide the original tire diameter into 31 and then multiply that number times your gear ratio, u'll get the new ratio needed to be numerically equivalent to stock.

Example: 31/28 = 1.107 X 3.07 = 3.40

31s and 3.55:1 behind an I6 engine and AX-15 is an awesome setup. Much harder to stall going back into first gear Like djb383 indicated, 3.55:1 is a bit deeper than stock but I find this makes up for the extra rotating mass of the larger tires and increased wind resistance when lifted.

Bonus: 3.55:1 is very easy to find, look for part outs or take outs from 4.0 XJs with automatics. In some cases you may be friendly with locals who are regearing and might simply trade 3.07 for 3.55 axles.
