Default Gear Oil ?

i just replaced both front wheel hub bearing on my 99 xj . my question is wen i pulled the left wheel hub bearing off the inner axle slid out with it. i have oil on the bottom of the steering knuckle. do u guys think its the inner seal it self or maybe just some oil that seeped into the housing. when i put the axle back in i made sure i did it carefully and slid it in and twisted it till it went in.

Did it leak before the axle came out? If it did I would replace seals, including after market outer seals.

it didnt leak before i pulled the axle it just leaks out slowly onto the bottom of the steering knuckle co u think it could be just some oil in the axle tube or the seal. i drove it today and let it sit for 3 hours and theres no oil on the ground but there was last night

If I remember correctly the seal is near the differential

SO there is a possibility that you just brought some oil into the axle tube

But I would just replace it while you are there, its not hard

Those differential seals break pretty easily when you remove the axle shafts and are not super careful when you put them back in. Same thing happened to me. You probably need to replace the diff seals.
