what type of gear oil do i need
i have a 98 xj manual

5w30 cold weather
10w30 warm

So you want engine and manual transmission? You can run 5 1/2 Quarts of 5W-30 because its colder and it'll lubricate the top end faster then 10W-30 but thats what is "reccomended". As for manual transmission fluid 4 Quarts of Red line or any 10W-30/40 Oil....Id reccomend Royal purple to protect your gears/synchros the best.

so which one of them is for the engine and which one for the gear?

Actually you could run both if you wanted to. any oil you prefer 10W-30 for the engine. and I would reccomend Royal Purple 10W-40 for your AX-15.

Engine-10W-30 5 1/2 Quarts

AX-15-10W-40 4 Quarts

Ummm, owners manuals will tell you these answers. Or the good people at your local parts store (where you go to buy this ****) they also know. Or even google it...
