Default gear oil

Hey I got some gear oil given to me and I wanted to know if I could use it in my rear end. I have a c8.25 open rear end, the oil is a 80w-90. It says on the bottle that its for " extreme pressure" and that's its suitable for limited slip. Does that matter that's it can be used for a LS but mines open?

When it says extreme pressure, they're talking about the pressure between the gear teeth and shearing force put on the oil when the gear teeth are mashed together and sliding on eachother, not the pressure in the axle housing. That is what make gear oil special.

The extreme pressure additives are a Sulphur/Phospherous compound that coats the "Extreme Pressure" areas such as the ring and pinion teeth that are subject to high loads. The Sulphur/Phospherous prevents metal to metal contact. All new age diff gear oils are "extreme pressure".
