Gear Oil
Hey Guy's
I tried searching but could not find what type of gear oil to use in my front axle, 1999 xj.
Is it standard gear oil you buy at the autoparts store?
Thanks in advance,

today's lockers do not have any special fluid additive requirements like those used back in the 60's and 70's. All mechanical and air lockers will work fine on convensional gear oil 75w-90. Lockers with clutches should use sythetic rathen then convensionsal gear oil only becaose it soaks into the clutch disk better then convensional oil. Lucas, Castro, or Valvoline, are your best choices. Try to stay away from bargin gear oils if you can, most come from recyled base and have high levels of ash in them from the recycling process. Ash is bacisally carbon floating in th base oil, this is like having irt in your oil. But if it's all you have, it's better than nothing at all.
