I have a 1991 cherokee, with the idiot lights. i was wondering if you can switch the gauge cluser from maybe a 95 cluster and it would still work, i did this in my 88 comanche but that had a speedomer cable this one does not.

I dont believe you can because the 91 uses a speedo cable and the newer models are electricaly controlled.

you should be able to. the fittings and everything should be exactly the same. i believe it was early year 1991 models had a speedo cable, and the later part of the year they switched them to electrical units.

Did the swap on my 96. All you need to do is also get the oil pressure sender and coolant temp sender from the donor Jeep when you grab the cluster. The ones you have now are meant to send readings to the idiot lights, but you need to ones that send to the gauges. Just be careful when getting the coolant temp sender out, as it's made of brass and strips very easily. You'll need to tap on a deep socket lightly with a hammer. I believe 1/2" but I'm not positive. I love it, now I have a tach and 125,000 miles less than before! My Jeep has 200K but odometer only says 75K

My 88 had idiot lights from the factory took about 20 minutes after a friend rolled his to pull his with full gauges out and put it in mine. So yeah they did come with full gauge back then. I dont think 91 is completly electronic either. I bet you got a speedo cable in the middle of the cluster. Could be wrong though.

Oh yeah you will need to change out the oil pressure sending unit and the temp sending unit. Both are easy to get to and shouldnt cost all that much.
