Default gauge wackiness

98 cherokee sport, 4.0, 4wheel drive.

History: I got it frm an old guy up north who was using it on his farm, it broke down, and sat for a year. I towed it back, and changed...

The coil,
Plugs,
Wires,
Cap,
Rotor,
CPS {oem}
MAP sensor,
Both o2 sensors {on the exhaust}
Fuel pump,
Fuel level sending unit,
New battery,
New terminal heads,
All grounds refreshed.

I now {still} have a Check Engine light on {still}
It tells me 1st bank o2 sensor,
My guages will sporadically cut out {all of them}
Although the background lights stay on.
And occasionally, more and more frequently, the ODO and speedo are the only ones that cut out.

Gotta be a loose wire/bad ground... any advice?
{I also changed the computer from my old jeep to this one and back, all same issues persist.}
Thanks in advance.

Is it running? If it is and the gauges just stop but the Jeep keeps running fine. Try giving the dash a good firm slap above the instrument cluster. If they come back on then you do have either a loose connection or dirty connections. You will have to pull the cluster and clean and make sure that all on the connections are tight including the grounds back there.

Yep, running.

Only issue is, when floored, it staggers. On slow take offs, no issue, no hesitation.

Next step, I reset the codes yesterday, and will go have them re-read this week. Thinking along the lines of a tps? Hate to keep throwing parts at it tho blindly. Almost everything's been replaced.

Good news... driving to work this morning, and sure enough, odo and speedo cut out, airbag light comes on. I reach up, hit the right side of the guage cluster with the palm of my hand, it starts working. Happened again about 10 mins later, reach up again, hit it, starts working, airbag light goes away.

Thx for the advice. It's on the list of things to take apart and clean. Probably a mouse nest in there or something.

lol, gotta love that 0-65 in .1 second.

My 98 was doing that when I first got it. It had a grossly undersized battery from Mexico, I haven't a clue where the PO got it from. Ever since replacing the battery, problem stopped, at least as frequently. Still does it on a rare occasion, usually during a long trip.

Not a problem. I figured that was your problem. My 98 XJ does the same thing once and awhile Although mine hasn't done it in over a year and I still haven't fixed it. Just to lazy.
