My 2000 had the same problem. The socket on throttle cable kept coming off the ball on throttle. Inside the plastic socket are metal tabs, I squeezed the tabs together more and it held better. If those tabs are gone than the ball/socket connection will not work. Time to modify.
My 96's or 91 never had that issue.

@ Briankk; Think out of the box! Come up with a different setup. Make one out of another style or something. Take pictures show us how you did it! This is America! You are allowed to think for yourself. (at least some of us are in America anyway).
Maybe use a different bracket from a Grand Cherokee or something idk.

They're no longer available new.
And yes, 87 to 90 4.0s use the same piece.
Find your "Neighborhood" using the link below and post there pleading for a good used one..................

First, I could remove (by whatever means) the plastic ends on the stock linkage, and attach a couple of real (metal) ones from Summit racing. Would cost nearly $60 and require a bit of fiddle, but seems doable.
Second, I could try to adapt a later throttle control setup that avoids the Mickey Mouse bellcrank, etc.
I've only seen pictures of this setup, but it has the throttle cable coming across the rocker box and attaching directly to the ball on the throttle plate.. I have no idea what would be involved in this, I've never examined that setup in a junkyard jeep.

Now your talking M8! Its a Jeep, imagine how many were rigged during WWII and Korea?
As long as you keep everything aligned and pulling straight, bolt everything down good and snug, along with a little common sense you should be fine!
Post pictures!

I can think of a couple of possibilities, but I thought this would be well known failure with a simple fix. My bad.
