I have to replace my leaky gas tank on my 88 Renix and I guess I should change the fuel pump as well. Any suggestions on the brand of fuel pump or hidden problems? Thanks

I haven't yet replaced my pump so I can't comment on that, but now is a good time to replace the rubber fuel lines, fuel filter, filler neck, and inspect the hardlines. Your j-bolts may break as they did on mine, so plan for that.

"May" break? It's s miracle if they don't. In fact, I think it makes sense to give them one try to break loose correctly, and then cut to the chase and just cut them.
They are stupidly expensive too. Lots of work-arounds have been posted on cheaper alternatives. The problem is trying to dig them up! Maybe when I retire I'll find them all and post a thread on it to get them all in one place.
Some 5/16" all-thread is always an option.
As to pump brands, I've seen good comments about Bosch and Delphi. But these days with everything outsourced to China, it's hard to say.

I used Freightliner battery hold-down bolts, nearly identical to the factory J-bolts. I may have posted the part number in my build thread, but you could easily find threads regarding j-bolts on google.
Actually, I think right after I did mine I remember seeing J-bolts start popping up on TeamCherokee and Quadratec, but I may be imagining that.

I remember reading that somebody used the battery tie downs from Freightliner.
Said they were cheap and worked.
But didn't post a link.
So I went to the Freightliner site to try and find them, cause I was curious, and for the life of me could not
figure how to navigate the Freightliner site to find them. It is almost like you can't look up anything they sell.
Refusing to give up I did find these:

Guessing these are the ones.

My j-bolts were fine. Being an AZ Jeep from teh get go probably helped.
The fuel pump is a breeze even while the tank is in. Swapping it now would be a waste of cash. Mine was noisy and plugged with all the rust from inside the tank, so I did. I also went with a lifetime warranty Napa assembly.
I would buy new hoses for the fill and vent. I had to cut mine off, rock hard. I also got new grommets for the the EVAP check valves. Replacing pump/filter hose wouldn't hurt. Couple feet of each of 3/8 and 5/16".

That's not too bad. 40-ish for the pair. Last time this came up (that I remember) they were going for $45 each! =O
