Default Gas Tank Replacement 92 Cherokee

Hello all,

I am a newbie to this site, but what I have read it seems very informative. I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. My son who lives in upstate NY recently purchased a 1992 Cherokee Laredo. The 18-19 years of NY winters have taken a toll on the vehicle. He came home last weekend and I noticed that his gas tank was wet. It ws not dripping but it appeared that the lower half was damp. Now to my question. I ordered a new tank for him and had it sent to his place in NY. When the car was at home I did not take notice of what size the all thread hanger rods were that support the tank straps in the front of the tank. Due to the amount of rust on the vehicle I really doubt that I will be able to undue the nuts on the hanger rods. Does anyone know what the diameter and thread pitch is on the hanger rods. I plan on cutting the rods and chasing the threads with a die and then coupling on a new length of all thread.

Thank you
