1998 Cherokee Laredo, L6 engine. Initial inspection the vehicle had fuel and spark. But it would not start. It would only crank and crank and crank. So I remove the ignition coil from the side of the engine block. Tested it against the brand new coil. The resistance on the new coil was higher than the resistance on the windings of the faulty coil or old coil. 1.6 ohms across the primary, 10k secondary. And along the order of 2 ohms primary, 12k ohms secondary. At first, I didn't think it would make that much of a difference. Then I installed the new coil, and the Cherokee fired right up and ran normally.
